We Begin Again
So Derek got dead, Mer and Cristina got old together, and Izzie showed Denny her prom dress.
Such is the stuff of dreams. Which was kind of my theme. For this episode. And this season. Dreams. And whether or not they come true.
This is season five, people. We, the writers, we call it our all in, go for broke season. We’re like the Chief – the bar has been raised and we’re the ones raising it. For us, the show is new again. Full of chances and possibilities. Our characters are new again, starting fresh. We’re hopeful again. And we’re enjoying being hopeful. All the rules are changing.
I know you are wondering, “Okay, what does this mean?” And I could tell you. But I’d rather you watch and see for yourselves. Watch what happens with Meredith and Derek, Cristina and that guy Owen, Callie and Erica, Bailey, the Chief, George, Lexie, Mark, Izzie and Alex. All the clues for this season are right there in this first episode. Nothing happens without a reason. Every line of dialogue has a point. At least, I hope it does. I’m pretty tired but I think I’m right.
That’s all I’m going to say. Because we’re shooting the eighth episode right now. And I’ve got to get to the set to watch a scene being filmed. So you’ll have more to watch. I’ll try to write more later.
Thanks for sticking with us. We’re going to do our damnedest to make it worth your while.
The bar has been raised, people. Consider yourselves on notice.

How did you go so bad, so fast? I eagerly watched GA last night and was bitterly disappointed. You've already jumped the shark! That soap opera with the three wives was almost unwatchable. And, SERIOUSLY, Meredith, do shut up! You're a doctor, remember! This is a hospital, not a junior high. That goes for everyone. No wonder Seattle Grace is number 12...who focuses on their work?? P.S. I dare you to post this. Let's see if ABC really cares what its viewers REALLY think.

Ignore the naysayers. Well done.

Many congrats to the writers for a well written episode! It's good to have you guys back on track. It finally feels like the dialogue has gotten back to where it needs to be.

Can you stop kicking Meredith having all the characters blame her? Meredith & Cristina are sickening to watch, Meredith can't have a future if Cristina doesn't support her? Thats obsessive not friends.

I'm very happy with Major Hunt- bring him back! (I'm sure you will and Christina with a spark in her eye was a welcome change.)
Denny coming back...Whatev. Not doin' it for me.
Kudos to your music director for playing Bon Iver. You guys are too hip!

Overall disappointed, although it was funny what Meredith said about the kids with the perfect hair. Really was hoping for more Mer/Der.

As that TV show from the 70s says Welcome Back!!!!
Look forward to the new season.... Owen Hunt what a character and thank you for making us think about our troops that are still over there!! We will never forget!!
The relationships that could happen but wont Merideth and Alex, Sloan and Izzie, Chief and Hawn,
George and anyone other than the current cast, because the only two females he has not been emotionally or physically to attached are Hawn and Christina! (NOTE you can add Rose to that if you would like)
Nurse Olivia
Bailey - Vajay Jay
Merideth One night stand
Izzie The BFF #1
Callie his ex wife wife
Lexie his new BFF and roommate
Look forward to season 5! Keep up the great writing! Without you we wouldn't be blogging!!

Mer/Chris: The co-dependency thing (from Meredith's side) has got to stop. Its not a love story it's making me hate them both.

Shonda, when will you learn?? You just don't seem to get that your best seasons were seasons 1 &2, when Meredith and Derek were together and acted like adults. What have you reduced Meredith to?? It is a shame to see you wasting Ellem Pompeo's talent showing her as a weak, whiny woman. In season 1, she was pushing people against lockers and standing up for herself. That is what we want to see in a leading lady.
Your word is no good anymore. You have lost the trust of the people who watched this show from the beginning and made it a success. You say things like Mer and Der are "together for good" and now you start hedging on that and say "together for good until the end of the season". People are done. Most of the fanfiction that is written is better than the junk you are putting out.
You may think you will have the last laugh and that they are your characters to do with what you want, but by that time no one will care, because no one will be watching!

Why did we get so much of the armyguy I don't care about or know and so less Mer/Der? I don't watch Greys for this army doctor out of the blue. I watch for MerDer and the characters like Izzie adn Alex that I started watching and still only watch this show for. But we got seconds of them and 2 hours of army doctor. What a crock.
Oh and Shonda? For now does not mean For good. Way to lead your viewers on and LIE to them.

I recall the days when I anxiously anticipated the posting of a blog, not to mention watching the episode. I gave up on the blog after season 3 but kept watching.
Last night I felt disappointed and cheated. And now, I can say I am tired of having to read a blog to understand what I just wasted 2 hours on. So, everything is there? Every line has a meaning? When will we be able to watch a show that stands alone without any explanations.
My excitement for season 5 was tremendous until your apparent comment to USA comment that they believe they are together and that they are together for now.
After all the hype, I felt if I watched the promo’s and the last 10 minutes, I’d have gotten the show. I do not want to spend time analyzing each line, I want to watch and be entertained and engaged. I was neither last night. You gave us the candle scene for what? We have no idea what happened, you mocked us by filming our fears and then even Derek uses Rose’s “gotcha” when talking about marriage.
The dream sequence with him dead? What was the purpose, for the love of realism, she is still talking to Cristina and not to Derek about the nightmare, her fears. Then, suddenly and miraculously after retracting the move in with me…. We are to believe she changed her mind, again without any need for conversation. Meredith showed more emotion and cared more about Cristina’s opinion than she showed during any scene between her and Derek.
The chief blaming her, Ellis’ daughter being there for his failure, he is indeed responsible.
,
Give me a break! Seriously! I’m not going to say I’m not going to watch, because I will, you’ve created two characters that keep me wanting to come back.
Owen and Cristina… so?? He is only there for a short period of time, but the one couple you created and refer to as “legendary” not even one touch, one kiss…. He wanted her to care for his hand because he gets “sex” from here.
I no longer have any faith that Meredith and Derek indeed belong together, because last night you made their relationship inconsequential. Yes a picture paints a thousand words, just one 5 second change lat night might have made a difference instead of Meredith melancholy and distant while packing, imagine if she had put the tape down and gone over to Derek and simply hugged him.

Thank you for an awesome start to Season 5.
For me the season opener was all about the guest stars. Kevin Mckidd is amazing- I so hope he can become a series regular! And how approriate that his name is MCkidd- I think it's meant to be!!
Since they cancelled Journyman I would love to see him on this show...
Also I think Bernadette Peters was AMAZING- She is so Beautiful. Thanks for having her on the show.
And of course thanks for bringing Denny back for a bit-it was nice to see him.
Looking forward to a great season...

It pains me to say that this episode was.... kind of boring.
Pleasssse bring back the spark from seasons 1 & 2.
The Mer&Cristina old scene was hilarious. That was the only moment that broke the boring mold.

I don't know that this episode raised the bar for me. I'm a die hard Meredith/Derek fan, and after the moment that they had at the end of S4, they needed a reunion, not just a hello over a computer.
Loved Owen Hunt! I wasn't prepared to like yet another character being added to the mix, but he was great. And I do believe his chemistry with Cristina may just equal Meredith and Derek!

If Meredith wines anymore I will have to stop watching...first she wants him then when she gets him then she doesn't - 4 seasons now - Get Derrick someone who will appreciate how awesome he is. I'm available. Love Jeffrey Dean Morgan - wish somehow Denny had a twin brother. Can't believe there is no interaction between Izzie and George - they were in love. Love the new plans with Christina.

I really wish that you had a MerDer kiss or, better yet, a MerDer sexy scene!
I really like Army guy, that kiss was hot. Keep him around, Cristina deserves some romance.

Thank you for the lovely, uncomfortable, but then flirty humorous scene at the end with Callica. It is so refreshing to watch a show with so much different diversity!

LOVED, LOVED this episode - bravo, a job very well done! so excited for how the rest of the season pans out!!!

Please please tell me we're going to see more of Owen. He was HOT and his scenes with Cristina were so much fun to watch.

You're back! Grey's is back! I'm back!!
Loved the season opener. Can't wait for more! DON'T like Mr. I'm Army Strong and Can Do Anything Redhead. HE'S GOT TO GO!!

I love it!!! I can't wait to see where everyone goes. You are right, nothing happens without a reason ... such is life. Glad to see Denny ... Jeffrey Dean Morgan is awesome ... I hope you find a way to bring him back to the show ...even if it's another character (a Denny look alike for Izzy?) No one ever forgets their one true love. I really like the McKidd-Oh combo ... Great Job!!! Worth the wait!!

What did you all watch? Mer and Der didn't even touch. Everyone acted wooden.
Depressing, boring and bloody! And the preview for next week? If the clues to the season are in this episode, forget it!
Nothing but a rehash...we have seen it all before. All we want is a return to Season One, the kinder, funnier, gentler Grey's.
Have you not heard about the Recession?
Look at movies made in the 30's. Give us something like that! We can't take anymore anguish...we are all living it ourselves everyday!

I was disappointed. Pretty weak episode for a season opener. I was so excited only to be disappointed. I honestly felt like I was watching a bad espisode of ER. I really hope you focus more on the characters and their relationships. I really wanted to see more Rose.
