We Begin Again
So Derek got dead, Mer and Cristina got old together, and Izzie showed Denny her prom dress.
Such is the stuff of dreams. Which was kind of my theme. For this episode. And this season. Dreams. And whether or not they come true.
This is season five, people. We, the writers, we call it our all in, go for broke season. We’re like the Chief – the bar has been raised and we’re the ones raising it. For us, the show is new again. Full of chances and possibilities. Our characters are new again, starting fresh. We’re hopeful again. And we’re enjoying being hopeful. All the rules are changing.
I know you are wondering, “Okay, what does this mean?” And I could tell you. But I’d rather you watch and see for yourselves. Watch what happens with Meredith and Derek, Cristina and that guy Owen, Callie and Erica, Bailey, the Chief, George, Lexie, Mark, Izzie and Alex. All the clues for this season are right there in this first episode. Nothing happens without a reason. Every line of dialogue has a point. At least, I hope it does. I’m pretty tired but I think I’m right.
That’s all I’m going to say. Because we’re shooting the eighth episode right now. And I’ve got to get to the set to watch a scene being filmed. So you’ll have more to watch. I’ll try to write more later.
Thanks for sticking with us. We’re going to do our damnedest to make it worth your while.
The bar has been raised, people. Consider yourselves on notice.

Please I beg of you ... no more love triangles. Haven't you realized that the fans do NOT like that? It wasn't a success with Callie/George/Izzie. It wasn't a success with Derek/Meredith/Finn or Meredith/Derek/Addison. It's tired and overused so please do not put Callie and Erica into any love triangle with ANYBODY.
A couple doesn't always have to be tempted by someone else to be interesting. Callie and Erica are interesting enough without bringing anyone else into the picture.
Please? Fidelity is NOT boring or evil.

You are killing me by constantly bringing back Denny! I'm not seriously mad at you, but I can never get over him if you keep bringing him back! So keep bringing him back! :)

Love, love, LOVE Kevin McKidd/Dr. Hunt. What an impression he made with one appearance. There are going to be many more, right? There really need to be many more appearances - as in regular cast member. I had wondered a little about the chemistry between him and Sandra Oh, but it was really great! More, please.

I have been a fan since the begining but find that this Season 5 premier was simply flat. The dialog was stilted, unlike the previous 4 seasons which delivered a pithy cadence bordering on actual, genuine human conversation rather than the typical televison pablam. I hope for the best for the rest of the season as Shondra and crew have previously delivered.

WORST SEASON PREMIER IN THE HISTORY OF GREYS. If it'll continue to be like this, I'm jumping ship!

Alex and Izzie were so cute and it was a good episode I understood why Alex behaved like that way he cant change in one day right?
please more Alex and Izzie scenes please :)

Perfect! Absolutely perfect!!!
Thank you for an amazing episode!

I'm going to be as lazy in my comment as you were in the season premier.
The episode sucked. Nothing really happened, after the candle scene MerDer barely talk. Urgh!
And you have ruined yet another relationship in the show: Meredith and Cristina. How Meredith depends on such a crappy friend makes me sick, and makes her weak.
ABC Thursday's night is officially off the list of my must see tv.

Shonda - ask yourself why so many people hate Alex! To make him a jerk again is not the right way to build up a great and big love story between him and Izzie! I've been waiting since season 1 that he will change. I was hoping that both will get a real chance to become a couple again in season 5. After watching that episode, I'm not sure if this is possible. I'm so disappointed. Do you have fun in destroying couples?

You sure did raise the bar and I am very happy you did!!! It was time...
So, two things I truly loved about this episode:
1) Kevin MCKidd...what a gifted actor. And such a great fit with Christina...knowing Kevin from other shows and movies I wasn't sure it would work but it really did! Please, please keep him around...make him permanent! He's such a wonderful addition to the cast and brings a lot to the show!!!!
How perfect was it when Owen literally and hopefully methaphorically pulled out Christina's icicle...the ice age is melting away :)
2) Alex...I love him, always have, always will. And all those seasons I refused to believe that he and Izzie were done - in spite of Danny, George and Rebecca - because it always felt like those two belonged. I love Alex - he always was a good man. It's just that he's also very vurnerable, very proud, very scared...I hope he and Izzie will make it.
Their scenes together last night felt so right...Alex explaing to Sarabeth that her husband cares about her in spite of the cheating...it felt perfect.
Last night it felt like GA was holding the number one spot again.

First Alex and Izzie were the most amazing thing in the episode, and I'm Glad Gizzard are over, and btw all the Gizzie fans are the same, notice how they talk in the same way?, anyways, Alex and Izzie are a zilion times better than Denny/Izzie or George/Izzie.

Thanks Shonda! So glad Grey's is back! Missed you all summer. Big fan since day one. Am sure you won't lose your perspective of things don't always go smooth in "real life" style of writing, even tho' I am tickled at the prospect of Meredith and McDreamy together.
Finally I really am writing to thank you for bringing back Denny. WE ALL MISS DENNY AND SO WISH SOMEHOW HE COULD COME BACK AS A REGULAR. I could not take my eyes off his adorable face. LOVED IT, and of course putting Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the season opener was sweet. Never expected to see him so quickly.
THANK YOU,

O Kay even though i loved the show tonight it was lacking a special something that would have made it priceless. ("MerDer") Why so little time for the couple you all love to promote. Why do you love to make Meredith everyone's punching bag. Can you leave our heroine alone for a while. and Let her be happy. Can you please stop hurting my Mer! I want more MerDer. I hope you finally keep then together for good like you said and now just this season.

I'm so happy this show is back. It was amazing. I was trying to figure out what everything meant as the show went along. I didn't really figure out much of anything.
I do have to say that I love Kevin McKidd as Owen. He does a fantastic job covering up his accent. I was hoping for more kissing this episode, but I was satisfied with that steamy kiss between Owen and Cristina.
Sorry we have to wait 2 weeks for a new episode. Can't wait to see it though.

Too much Meredith & Christina.
NOT ENOUGH MEREDITH & DEREK.
I guess I don't know where this is going with Mer/Der but I'm not sure I want to be around to watch. It seems like we are being set up for the Meredith & Christina happy ever after and the downfall of Mer/Der. It pains me.

I just loved the episode and I am so so so glad Grey's is back (from all points of view!). Believe it or not, the show has huge fans in the smallest corners of the world, including this little place called Romania.
Oh...and please don't forget to find a McName for Dr. Hunt. It would be the cherry on top of the cake! :)

Liked it a lot!
And I do not really care for a Gizzie or a Gexie or any of that, I like to go with the flow. Who am I to tell them what to do and what to think? ;-)
Laughed not so much this time, but cried a bit because of the three couples and their struggles.
I personally thought the air was cracking between Mr. Hunt and Cristina, liked that surprising element very much, although I thought he was very, very overdrawn in his character...stereotype of a rogue and then some. But who am I to say there is no one like that out there somewhere?
I will definitely keep watching!

I love Grey's, i love the psychology behind it, this episode was amazing, I'll watch it again just so i can blog on it.
but i loved the message
"Take a risk."

LOVED it! Who would have thought sweet little Rose would be so bitter? And how about that Owen? Good things to come. Thank you for a lovely Thursday evening!

I was happy. I just hope MerDer talk it out on what has happened between them.I just feel that part wasn't resolved. I was kinda mad at Cris at the way she was with Mer but she redeemed herself when she told Mer she would support her rel with Derek. And I do hope MerDer is together for good and not just "for Now". Denny's scene, so heartbreaking, i cried.

I thought the episode was fantastic, reminded me of the earlier seasons. Please keep that up???
Oh, and like many others I'm totally for bringing Major Hunt back, he's AMAZING!
So are Alex and Izzie btw, can't wait to see what's going to happen for them!!!

When will Meredith stop being dark and twisty? How many years are we supposed to listen to her whine about the same things and never get anywhere? Repeating the same issues is not making for a great opener. I actually was so bored that I fell asleep. I used to live for Grey's nihgt and now I'm not sure if it is worth watching. At least The Office is entertaining.

Loved it, can't wait for the next episode! I loooooved Hunt, he needs to stick around.

I was really looking forward to the beginning of the season but I don't know why, it left me feeling a little empty.
I was always left feeling fulfilled after Grey's episodes but last night wasnt' the case :(
