We Begin Again

So Derek got dead, Mer and Cristina got old together, and Izzie showed Denny her prom dress.

Such is the stuff of dreams.   Which was kind of my theme.  For this episode.  And this season.  Dreams.  And whether or not they come true.

This is season five, people.  We, the writers, we call it our all in, go for broke season.  We’re like the Chief – the bar has been raised and we’re the ones raising it.  For us, the show is new again.  Full of chances and possibilities.  Our characters are new again, starting fresh.  We’re hopeful again.  And we’re enjoying being hopeful.  All the rules are changing.

I know you are wondering, “Okay, what does this mean?”  And I could tell you.  But I’d rather you watch and see for yourselves.  Watch what happens with Meredith and Derek, Cristina and that guy Owen, Callie and Erica, Bailey, the Chief, George, Lexie, Mark, Izzie and Alex.  All the clues for this season are right there in this first episode.  Nothing happens without a reason.  Every line of dialogue has a point.  At least, I hope it does.  I’m pretty tired but I think I’m right.

That’s all I’m going to say.   Because we’re shooting the eighth episode right now.  And I’ve got to get to the set to watch a scene being filmed.   So you’ll have more to watch.  I’ll try to write more later.

Thanks for sticking with us.  We’re going to do our damnedest to make it worth your while.

The bar has been raised, people.  Consider yourselves on notice.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
it was amazing!!!!!!!!!!
it was worth the entire summer's wait
it was worth searching for new promos every day
it was extraordinary!!!!!!
THANK YOU!!

It was an absolutely lovely episode. (: Thank you.

So glad you're back!!!! I felt like I was seeing old friends.

It feels so good to have Grey's back!! I missed you all.

Thanks for being the best thing that ever happened to Thursday.

Shonda: that was NICE. Sorry to choose that word, but I really liked it. It was fun to watch like it used to be. I loved how Cristina was, and the whole rest of it, too. Very profound and fun all at the same time. I am glad i stayed around. I look forward to see where you are going to take us this time. And I sure do love that Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Great start to the season (and the show too - candles, rain and tragedy !!! even in dreams for us...and Denny too), Izzy and George being back to "normal"....even Sloan.
Just very very good all the way around.
Take a breath, and enjoy the ride too writers ! I am happy to have you back on the air. Thank you !

It was a depressing episode i thought, but good overall.

This episode was so good in so many ways, I especially loved the Callie and Erica parts (and it sounds positive and promising that you say that every line of dialogue in this episode has a meaning). But Christina slipping and then being impaled by an icicle? And what looks to be some sort of flood in the hospital next episode? Really? Seriously? Please tell me that that's going to end up being more realistic and less far-fetched than it seems right now.
But on the whole, wonderful work, keep it up!

Grey's. Is. Back.

Best episode I have seen since the finale of season 2, and that is saying something. I am relatively speechless at the moment, but I am so excited for this season now after seeing that premier.

Oh, and by the way, thanks Shonda, I bet my mom 10 dollars that you would find a way to bring Denny back again. Clearly, I won.

Yes the clues are all there. How George is going to be the lsoer once again. How Lexie will hook up with Mark and not him and you are going to ruin your best potential new couple before they even start (I am talking about Gexie), how you will continue to act like George and Izzie are strangers and totally continue to betray us Gizzie fans over and over again (yes I am a gexie and Gzizie fan so doubly angry right now), how Izzie is going to continue letting herself be abused by gross Alex.

If this is what is going to happen, I am out, finished and done. This was the worst episode ever!

You're still my favorite drama on TV...I'm rooting for you!

Oh, how I missed my Grey's! I'm so glad the episode was two hours long as even at the end of two hours I didn't want it to end. And, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for bringing Kevin McKidd on board - damn, he looked sexy!

That was wonderful. I loved Old Cristina and Meredith....and I loved Denny seeing the prom dress. I really loved Kevin McKidd. cristina lagged so much last season its nice for her to be around someone who has a spark and who is unafraid.

I do hope you have raised the bar. I didn't really feel that tonight's episode did though. I had high hopes, but I felt that nothing really happened. It was just a lot of talking, and then the most interesting/exciting parts were all fake (Derek's accident, Rose's pregnancy, Derek's proposal)... I mean come on, give us something exciting! And I think Meredith needs to let go of Cristina's hand sometimes. Although that scene with the two of them super old was hilarious! But then again, that was the only time I laughed :(
Anyway, I'll stick around for a bit, but I do hope it will get better than tonight's episode writers!

George is my favorite character and I am sick and tired of the abuse you make him suffer. Why? Because he doesn't look like a model. How shallow can you be? george is the most beautiful, amazing of these guys and he better win over all of them. I want him and Izzie togetehr again, I want them to have scenes again. I hate her and Alex. I swear I will quit if you don't treat George better and give me Gizzie.

Ok, you need to make Kevin McKidd a series regular, stat! He's like a breath of fresh air on the show. And his chemistry with Sandra Oh is smokin'!

MAKE MAJOR HUNT A REGULAR!

After the absurdity of the candles in season 4 I was done. Then I decided to see how the premiere went. Well, let down again. TV Guide described it best - Meredith is a walking migraine. I'm tired of having a headache. So, I have decided to stop watching, remove the migraine that is Meredith from my Thursday nights. Its quite a shame that you made the decision to make your lead character so flat out grating and unwatchable.

Goodbye Grey's.

haven't you put us Gizzie fans through enough? Don't we deserve at least some friendship scenes if you are too scared to give us the romance we deserve? Why are you scared to even let those two talk? You scared their chemistry just talking will beat the chemistry between Alex and Izzie sleeping together? i don't blame you, it would, and it did.

I quit last season. I thought of coming back to watch Gexie because I heard they were so cute and like Gizzie, but it seems you are not even giving them a chance to be a couple and you will put her with Mark

Of course George can't be happy, can he? He isn't McSteamy or something, and only hot bad guys get to be happy in your ultra-shallow show. What is new with you. The good couples never get a chance.

If you were so fearless, you would give us Gizzie back.

Ok, you need to make Kevin McKidd a series regular, stat! He's like a breath of fresh air on the show. And his chemistry with Sandra Oh is smokin'!

Let me guess. You won't post any of the negative comments from frustrated George and Gizzie fans like me. The one good scene was Denny and Izzie. It was beautiful. The erst, especially the abusive Alex and Izzie relationship, was terrible, but I think you don't want to hear how many of us want George to win for once and for Gizzie to be together. Too bad, I will say it anyway.

Seriously boring season premiere. McKidd is the only thing that gave it any life. Everything else is like a bad rerun, OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. Mer/Der, Alex/Izzie, girls who swoon over George and he's a bumbling clueless idiot, b*tchy Cristina, mean Alex, passive-aggressive Chief, pretty little Derek. Shonda, bring back the fun and the innovation, even if it means that a few people actually get to be happy for a few episodes and not twisty and dark. There's enough twisty and dark in the world, give us an escape, not a replay of everything we've seen before. Pretty please?

Shonda
That was okay, but not the strongest to start the season. I love where you are taking mer/der. I hope your recent comments about them being together for good ONLY FOR SEASON 5 are not true. I hope you meant what you said about them being together FOR REAL.
I am not excited to see a relationship rift between mer/cris. Maybe that is necessary, but I think they need each other.

Also, and this is critical, you can't let Meredith be so whiny. I love her, but if you keep writing her as this insufferable twerp, your audience is going to hate her. So stop it. Bring back strong, fiesty, confident Meredith.

The Rose stuff was STUPID. Oh Shonda, why did you have to go there. I was so pointless. So embarrassing. You left season 4 on a good note - why not leave well enough alone.

I want season 5 to be good. I just hope you don't screw up mer/der. Please don't mess it up.

Thanks

I enjoyed the SP. Meredith and Derek smoked all there scenes. I think keeping things relatively light and humorous between them for a little while is the way to go. And please, let up a lot on Meredith. Please let her be happy for at least a few episodes.

And I want to remind you, Shonda, you promised together for good. TOGETHER FOR GOOD!

Love Alex and Izzie. I really hope that they work things out. George and Lexie are great too.

I'm back. Kind of skipped last season because I got bored with the strike (I know, it sounds callous, I'm sorry) but you've caught my interest again. I hope you keep it -- I do. I never even considered not watching this show, not once, until I didn't.

Okay, first: Bring back McBadass! Moderately certain that he's ten times as sexy as a McSteamy/Dreamy cocktail. No pun intended. Really. You don't bring pretty red beard man back and I may cry. I might have actually drooled a little. Maybe. ;)

Second: PLEASE don't spring Denny without warning. Come on. Yeah, it was...it was a really sweet scene. That's why I cried. And cried. And opened old sores that were really fine left closed and scabby. On the other hand, GOT to love Mr. Morgan for coming back again and again for these little scenes. :) He's such a wonderful man.

Good Meredith/Christina. I was 2.3 seconds from walking out of the room and not ever watching GA again, but you fixed it. And frrrowl, Prince Badass to come save the damsel in distress. Lovely.

I'm sure I could comment more -- I should, considering I've neglected you for a while, but I had my reasons -- but I'm going to go ahead and wait until I watch the show again a time or two.

Like I said, I'm going to give it another go. Thanks for a great episode -- keep it up! I hope you're enjoying filming.
