Gabrielle & Harry on "Staring At The Sun"
Original airdate: 11/16/06
We hope you enjoyed the episode! We tried to blend the happy with the sad, because that’s kind of like real life, right? Our episode’s theme was Blind Spots; how our doctors would respond when confronted with things they either couldn’t see or didn’t want to see, both in their professional and their personal lives. Starting off was easy, cause who doesn’t want to see Meredith and Derek all shiny and happy in a big bubbly bathtub? We know we’re making them and you wait for the super great “reunion sex”, but like Meredith said, waiting is part of the fun.
We really like Meredith deciding to be more cheerful, more “bright and shiny”, but bright and shiny can be pretty hard to pull off when you’re a surgical intern, dating an Attending, working with his ex-wife and her ex-steamy (That’s Dr. McSteamy to you.) and the Chief of Surgery, (your mother’s secret lover) asks you to break up with your mother (again), who happens to be in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer’s! Wow. Frankly we think Meredith does pretty well holding it all together. The scene between Ellis and Meredith at the end was so sad. Poor Ellis feels like Richard has left her all over again. Easy to see how Meredith ended up back in the tub not quite as shiny as before. But as long as Derek is with her, we know she’ll get through.
It’s kind of nice that Derek and Addison are at least trying to make life in the hospital between them civil. But as we saw in their conversation with Richard, there’s still a lot of hurt and pain between them. It’s going to be a while before they can put that aside, but Addison took a major step in moving on by tossing her wedding rings away. Of course, moving on from Derek, doesn’t mean she’s moving toward Mark Sloan, although it seems like he’s still very interested in getting her back. We love writing for Mark. Who else is going to ask Addison if she “wants my pickle” with such a devilish grin on his face?
Did you love Frank, our pec implant man? He had us laughing on every take. As funny as he was, we really tried to use him to give Alex some insight on his feeling for Izzie. He opened Alex’s eyes to the fact that deep down he still has strong feelings for Izzie. That kiss caught both Alex and Izzie off guard, but we loved how sweet they were together. Who knows what the future will bring for these two. Perhaps Alex will be able to “feed” Izzie’s “beast” again. Keep watchin’… you just never know.
Cristina and Burke are certainly heading for some kind of showdown. She’s helped him get back in the game, but it’s pretty obvious that Burke’s ego has taken a bit of a beating. That being said, he still does have the tremor and Cristina really is stepping it up in his surgeries. Just how long can these two keep it together? Who’s going to crack first? Can they keep their secret a secret? George and Burke’s friendship seems to be caught in the crossfire. But can you blame George for worrying about who’s going to operate on his father? That last shot of Cristina and Burke, in bed, and the simple “George knows” speaks absolute volumes. As they say, you can run, but you can’t hide. The truth always has a way of revealing itself.
The last thing we want to talk about is the Bailey/Mia storyline. The great thing about working on a TV show with millions of viewers is sometimes you can impart information that can make a real difference in real people’s lives. Did you know in the U.S., 50 children a week are accidentally backed over in driveways and on sidewalks by cars driven by family members and neighbors? Gabrielle’s sister’s friend Arden Rosenfeld lost her two year old daughter, Veronica, to such an accident and her terrible tragedy inspired this storyline.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!
Gabrielle & Harry

Thank you-It was a well written story and it showed the characters moving forward. I loved the bathtub with Mer & Der. They related as a real loving couple in the end. A really good episode.

Thaks for showing Mer and Der happy. It has ben to long since they have been so content.
Two questions: Why did the chief not go and tell Ellis that he would not be coming to see her again? Having Mer do it seemed really cowardly.
Is Geo rejecting Callie because she slept with Mark?? He should "get" the idea of "rebound sex" since he lives with Mer. He seriously can't believe she is interested in Sloane, can he?? She has such a great b.s. detector, she figured McSteamy out very quickly. G knows her well enough to know that. Doesn't he??
Great eppy. I LOVED the humor tonite. Great lines. Great scenes. Thanks for a good night!!

Great episode! Season 2 is on my Christmas list and I can hardly wait for each week.
All the happy and sad that we go through each week with the characters that have become like family is a form of therapy. There are so many emotions that I can relate to. Thanks for being there and rescuing us from the so called "reality" tv

"Starting off was easy, cause who doesn’t want to see Meredith and Derek all shiny and happy in a big bubbly bathtub?"
Me for one. Unless Meredith pushes Derek's head under water and Addison helps to hold him down. Derek aka "I'll be civil if I have my own way -no I won't because I'll make cracks about how my ex wife might not recognize happiness and how most people aren't happy when they get divorced, except me! Nananana, rub it in, rub it in, I'm a no good a**!" Not everyone succumbs to the poisonous spell of one worthless Derek Shepard.
I knew it! Alex has a storyline that involes pairing him up with someone and you talk about him with no prompting. He gets a medical story? Zilch. Although I was disappointed to see him not dealing with neonatal cases or something along those lines, I did enjoy his interaction with Izzy, I liked the "Alex says this" "Izzy says that" and how mature he was accepting that Izzy couldn't get into a relationship with him then, but agreeing to be a friend.
Addison is worth 10 Derek's. Which ain't saying much, I know. And, thank you for the scene with Addison, Bailey, and Callie. I love the Addison/Bailey friendship. My two favorite woman on the show. And, I loved Addison and Callie starting a friendship last week and am glad that you touched on that.
And, very telling that there's three mentions of George and it's wrapped up in the story of another couple. My heart belongs to Alex, but truthfully, this episode belongs to George. His overwhelmed feeling of finding out his dad had cancer and a heart condition, realizing that Christina was hiding the fact that something was wrong with Burke, dealing with his idiot brothers, his knowledge that Callie slept with Mark swirling around all of it. It was the most compelling story of the episode, but since the Callie part (the part about being in a romantic/sexual) relationship was a minor part it gets the smallest mention.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.
So sad that it should come to this.
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?
Sorry, just had to break out in song, but back to the comment. FIRST COMMENT, OH YAH. No really, back to the comment. This episode? Totally awesome. Cheyanne really liked this awesome episode. Next week's promo? INTENSE. Tomorrow? Greys on Oprah. Could this week be any more awesome? awesome-er? I think it's more awesome. Anyways...GREAT EPISODE

Wow! Another great episode. Thank you! I love these blogs--you give so much input to the episode. It really shows how much you care and love what you do. Now how about sharing those between takes "bloopers" Maybe add bloopers for the next DVD?!:) Thank you again!

I really loved the episode, partly cause I'm a nanny whose employers are awesome and super involved, but as the mom said she loves her job.
When I finish scooling i plan to love my job and eventually have a nanny. As callie said thats why god created nannies.
I liked how the episode sorta touched on that men arent considered in the should women have careers and kids.
but i am also a little disappointed while it seemed to figured a fair amount in the episode none of this is mentioned in the blog.
mothers and their struggles, families and their struggles.
I would have loved to hear more on those issues that were in the episode

I'm going to work hard and not write this in 3rd person, because my friend and I are chatting on MSN in 3rd person and now my head is going that way.
And btw I LOVED Frank. He was hilarious. More importantly, I love the moments he brought between Alex and Izzie. They were so adorable together, more so than ever before. Just really really cute. And that kiss was great. I love them.
Even more than them, I love bathtubs. I do. The one at the beginning was hot and adorable all at once. Derek was just wow. And Meredith was so cute with trying to stop him and being strong. She has so much willpower. It was a great scene. And the closing shot in the tub was perfect. The smiles they shared and the conclusion they came to. I loved it. Because in real life most couples aren't bright and shiny. I know my boyfriend and I aren't. People tend to be dull and lifeless. Much more realistic. Really appreciated the scene. And I love the waiting. I like the direction they are going, with them having a much stronger and truer and deeper relationship this time around. Really like it.
Really liked everything about this episode. Loved happy Derek and that him and Addie are trying to be civil. Loved that she finally gave up the rings. Loved that Callie fits in so well wihh the O'Malleys. And George was just amazing. And Cristina having her human moment. Definitely dug this episode. Great job. I'd send you cookies if I could. You deserve cookies
Oh yes...please send on the message to Patrick that he was robbed. Seriously, tell him Alicia from Canada said he was robbed. He's by far the sexiest man alive. I can not comprehend how anyone else got it. People magazine is on glue. Simple as that. He deserved the title and has it in my mind.
Okay, Alicia is done rambling. Alicia would like to thank you again for this amazing episode. (yes Alicia slipped and started with the third person).

How can you not mention Callie? Sara Ramirez was awesome in this episode!
Dude!

One more thing (well one more if my first comment gets approved). While I did find the Alex/Izzy thing sweet, I hated that Alex let Izzy perform a procedure. Isn't Izzy going to actually have to adhere to her probation? She's not merely a poor intern who lost her fiance. She's also someone who deliberately lied, broke hospital rules and I believe legal ones. I don't expect her to be kicked out, but it would be nice if there was some acknowledgement that disciplinary measures should be taken. Not being allowed to do anything because she has to earn back trust is fine for a tv fix, but it has to be stuck with.

WOW ... Loved Izzie and Alex... YAH YAH YAH YAH ... so sweet, i loved that he let her do a small procedure, and they talked in third person!!!! I see that this episode was a moving forward episode, can't wait till next week

Holy cow that was awesome. The George O'Mallyathon. I loved his family and his Dad andthe way Callie fit right in. Now we get why he couldn't commit to Callie. She is what he ran from. I loved that he had the guts to look at Cristina and ask her to think about what she is doing. THat has been needed for awhile now.
As for the Chief...the teeter totter Ellis thing is annoying. Its nice that he wants to go back to Adele, but if I were her, i wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.
Alex is awesome. Growing up and making better choices. liked that he took the Izzie thing well, and nice that she made no promises. That she wasn't ready Period. No "Maybe sometimes soon." That would have made me dissapointed.
You guys rock the cassba! Keep it up please cause I can't stop watching this freakin show!

Glad that Grey's Anatomy is back! It was both sad and happy. It felt like season 1 with the interns together in the tunnel talking. I missed the interns scenes this season so much. Love Meredith and Ellis. Meredith had scenes that weren't all about Derek, like in season 1. Meredith and Derek together again is love.

HOORAY! The old Grey's is back! Not that I haven't been enjoying Season Three - I have! - but my husband and I were just watching old episodes from Season Two, and we both agreed that so far in Season Three, there has been something... Missing? Different? Not quite the same. Where the Boys Are came close, but you nailed it with this one.
It had everything I've been missing from previous seasons: the gang in the tunnels; the banter between the interns; Meredith and Derek working together on a case; Dr. Bailey seeing and hearing everything, like her old "Nazi" self; Derek, Addison and Richard speaking to each other as something other than colleagues; everything! It felt like the old Grey's, the Grey's I fell in love with over the summer.
I still have questions about some of the characters and their motivations, but I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you guys should just ignore us. Stick to your vision, and just ignore the millions of us who dare to tell you who should stay and who should go and who should have relationships with whom and who should anything. Because you guys are great. Seriously.

Hint taken, will refrain from swearing. But, no swearing in this comment. Keep writing scenes with Meredith, Izzy, and George. I like their friendship and like seeing the three of them together.

I am seriously depressed by the previews for next week's episode. So much so that it is hard to even think about what happened in tonight's episode. I hate, hate, hate what you all have been doing to Burke and Cristina. I hate the hand tremor story line and what it is doing to their relationship. I don't believe that our Burke, man of integrity, honest no matter the cost, super surgeon Burke would risk George's father's life to keep the secret that his hand is not completely healed yet. Not for a minute do I believe the character you have created and Isaiah Washington has brought to life and made us love would do this. I can't stand what you are doing to him and to their relationship. I love these characters together. The last few weeks have been so depressing. They are still my favorite couple on the show and no one seems to care about what is happening to them. First of all Isaiah Washington got far too little air time this week. He is the reason I watch. What are you doing with him? Last week he was on screen quite a bit, but rarely with Sandra Oh, and the only sign of affection between them a little kiss on the forehead. Come on. Give us a break. Although I know it may sound silly, I can't enjoy the rest of the show until I know that they are going to be alright. It is just too sad.

Bailey can sing, who knew?? I am happy to see Derek and Meredith together, but I so want more of them, alot more.. I want to see them together and happy, I mean can't keep their hands off each other, major sex, crazy happy.. because we and they deserve it.. We have waited forever for them to finally get back together, so enough lets just rip of the band aid, and do it already!!

Why would Burke perform a surgery when his hand is shaking when (in Superstition) he did not want to perform a surgery without his lucky scrub caps? And as a doctor, Burke should know not to perform surgery again before he is ready. They always tell patients that.
I expected Izzie to go see George at the end when he was lying in bed. George is always there for Izzie.
But awesome episode with Bailey singing at the end!
I am concerned that Burke and/or Cristina are going to kill George’s dad. I think he was brought back with the intention of having him die. Denny was brought to the show with the intention of killing him so I think the same thing is going to happen with George’s dad except this time Cristina is the one who will do something wrong to help Burke.

If this is still the same year then it shouldn’t be fall again. It should be summertime. Why did it look like it was fall on the camping trip last week?

Wow. Izzie and Alex. Amazing. Haha, I'm a diehard fan of them so it was so great to finally see them sharing the screen again. I loved George and Cristina as well. And all the other drama going on is really building up!
I know I'm goin' have to sit this wait out for the Izzie/Alex reunion and, I'm aware that during the wait Alex might have "feed the beast" with a certain fellow attrative resident. I'm totally fine with it but please, for the love of God... don't turn it into a relationship! My heart will break... in two.
Great eppy! Great work! Loved Chandra Wilson's voice! Amazing!!
