The last thing I’m gonna say for now…
A lot of you wrote to protest that I didn’t talk about McVet’s statement to Mer or about McDreamy’s “I love you.” So, here goes…
Oooh, wait!! Can I just tell you that, last night, McDreamy told me he loved ME? Okay, not so much McDreamy as Patrick Dempsey and not so much “me” as “working on the show” but still…my heart skipped a little beat just the same to have him utter the words in that voice of his. That man says “I love you” better than anyone on the planet. But he’s married. In real life. And on the show. As much as we like to fantasize, we all have to remember that…
Anyway, I was proud of Finn. I was proud of the fact that he comes over to say that he and Meredith aren’t exclusive. He’s pissed but they’re not exclusive. Because, honestly, he doesn’t know what happened in that exam room. He doesn’t even know there WAS an exam room. And he really is a good guy, a strong guy, a guy who feels something for a woman for the first time since his wife’s death. I like that he’s not petty or easily made jealous. I like that he’s confident enough to stick. And I LOVE that he says that Derek is bad for her and he (Finn) is a good thing. There is some truth to it. Given the history of Mer/Der. And Finn is a rescuer-guy. You know, rescuer-guys, right? They’re the ones who are determined to break through the scary/damaged barrier we dark and twisty girls put up. They’re the real thing, rescuer-guys are the guys you marry.
The guys you should marry. But then there are the Dereks of the world…
Let me say a little something about McDreamy men. They are scary and damaged themselves. They carry a little bit of tortured soul in them. But they mean well. And they’re honest. And they’re so, so, so darn tempting. Especially when they stand in your kitchen say “I just…I love you. I have loved you…forever.” How in the world are we supposed to say no to that? We should. We should send them packing. But…SERIOUSLY?
And so Meredith is left with this choice. Between what her brain knows she should do and what her heart wants her to do. And while it seems obvious and easy, it’s absolutely not. Finn has plans. And Derek’s got a wife. And there’s the choice to be healthy and mature and whole and the choice to jump off the cliff. And no one jumps off a cliff without a parachute if they know what is good for them. Plus, it’s not like she doesn’t have feelings for Finn. She definitely has feelings for Finn. And I know Derek says that he loves her but he says it about twenty episodes too late.
She stood there and said “pick me, choose me, love me.” She begged him. BEGGED him in the most humble, humiliating, soul-baring way possible. And he chose Addison. He walked away and chose Addison.
That would give any girl pause. Major, major pause.
Meredith’s pausing.
She’s hit the pause button.
But, don’t worry, I’m not dragging this out all season. I’m not gonna drag it out very long at all. I like to move things forward.
I like to take my finger off the pause button and see what happens next.
Okay, that’s all for now. Because I have get back to writing episodes…
-Shonda

Hi Shonda-
I'm just wondering if you can give us some background info about yourself...How you got into (TV) writing, and where you came up with this series and its great characters? But don't give anything away....I love the secrecy! It makes me want to watch even more!

I agree with you in all you've said.. but what can I say? We know that deep inside, we all want a derek for us :)

Awww, no more blogging til next week? You're no fun!
Eh, just kidding, we love you Shonda! Thanks for the extra post, it's always cool to hear your thought process on things.

I am eally into this show. I have a really GREAT episode idea. How can I get it to Shonda; without someone stealing my remarkable idea. SMILE! Thanks for reading.

MnDreamy's also giving her time to choose. When does a guy ever say that? That was incredible! And I loved the look that George shot McDreamy as he hugged Callie. He still wants the best for Mer, even if he's with Callie. Awesome Shonda!

The kitchen scenes with both men were heart-melting and made me love them both even more. I want Mer to end up with Derek, just because he's... well, he's McDreamy. And who WOULDN'T want that? *sigh* :)

I really love this blog, and I really can't wait to see what happens next. Let me just tell you: If you know what's good for you, you know what's good for Mere...
just kidding. i love this show. and as much as like the drama: i like the happy better. because that can be complicated to. but in good ways.

Shonda, thank you for the updated blog. I have total faith and trust in you, and I can't wait to see what happens next! You always keep me on the edge of my seat. And I totally LOVED Derek's "I'm in love with you" speech. Brilliant! Patrick Dempsey delivered that perfectly! I'm very much a Mer/Der fan, so I hope she goes along with her heart.
Thank you again for this wonderful show you have given us! I can't wait until Thursday!!

Oh why oh why don't we like the men we should!!! Also I've been thinking...why are vet's so darn cute. I remember working a an emergency pet clinic and the substitute orthopedic surgeon was so cute I could only stammer when he was in the room. Seriously...I was 42 at the time and I could not even form a sentence when he was around!
Keep up the great job Shondra...we love you!

Can you please stop making out McDreamy to be so McBad? He was just a guy in a bar trying to forget about his slut of a wife and best friend. Like he said it was the life altering moment for him. It was awful that he didn't pick Meredith after she begged, but he was trying to do the right thing (honor his vows) despite wanting to pick her. You have to keep them together. The show won't end because Season 1 was amazing with their chemistry. This is torture.

He DOES say "I love you" better than anyone else on the planet! :)
Okay, I see your point. Mer does have reason to pause. But I'm glad to hear that she won't be "pausing" for too long. However, I can't imagine her going back to Finn. Yeah, he's nice...but Derek's the one who really gets her blood pumping! So she chooses Derek, right ? ;)

Thank you, Shonda, for all that you do. Your show is amazing, your characters are wonderful, and you are such a gift to the world.

Shonda you are sooo right!
I married a rescuer right after a McDreamy! I love to see the romance between MerDer, but I hope she gets rescued. Keep up the great writing.

I'm so glad to hear you say you aren't going to drag this out because I can't wait to see who she chooses...McDreamy or Finn..oooh btw last night McDreamy told ME he loved me too!

Shonda, I just wanted to thank you for that last post (I was in tears along with Meredith when McDreamy said his famous lines--how many girls have wished for that to happen in real life after being dumped?) and more importantly for blogging in the first place. It means a lot when writers of the show respect their audience and works hard to connect with them and hear them out. Thank you.

Wonderful show! I feel as if I'm their friend that loves hanging out at te hospital all day in their business without them knowing. I just don't say anything; I just cry, scream or wish (mustly cry) things would change or stay the same. Neat, Huh! I love Meredith. I feel like her sometimes. The sidekick. Wash up. Wanted by too many unwantees. SMILE Unfortunately, Meredith needs a break that is too soon not coming. Right

I loved that part. It was the part I was waiting for since the last episode of Season 2. I actually stood up and cheered in my livingroom while my McHubby glared at me and chuckled. I admire Patrick Dempsey for maintianing his family life and values amidst his "newfound McSexiness".

I LOVE that Derek made that speech. Lovelovelovelove it. And I even love Finn for being like, "I'm fighting for you."
I think Mer was just so.. unloved for so long, by her mother, by her father, by all the boys she had one night stands with... and now she had two GORGEOUS men who love her.
It's incredible. It really is.
PS: Finn and Izzie should hook up. Seriously. Like, when Mer opened the door and he was there, when he knew she was at work, I thought maybe Finn and Izzie were having a little thing. But Izzie's kind of really broken, so my mind kiboshed that. But when.. if.. she moves on.. she needs some Finn action.
Actually, maybe just a Finn/Izzie scene.. where they talk or something, would be good.
I just think they need a scene together.. just as friends even...

thank you for admitting that derek is dark and twisty too! it's so hard to watch this set-up. can you possibly resolve it in a way that won't be disappointing? any way it possibly goes will be disappointing to me, though for different reasons. can we please fast-forward to next thursday already???
Posted by: liza | September 23, 2006 at 05:49 PM
...s how did Addison find the panties?!?!?!
Posted by: Dianna | September 23, 2006 at 05:50 PM
I'd love to see Meredith take the mature choice and pick Finn - for once, i'd love to see the rescuer, the real-deal guy, the good guy, win.
Sigh.
