As promised, MORE from Krista regarding her last episode....
So, I said I would try last week to come back soon and write more about "Yesterday." I said I would try, and I meant it. I did try. But when I had to choose between writing dialogue for the actors to say and updating the writers’ blog – well, I’m trusting that you understand. I still don’t have much time, because Shonda keeps me handcuffed to my desk, with an IV drip of caffeine and marching orders that I must follow. Still, there are a few things I wanted to tell you -- and by you, I mean those of you who don’t write and call me names like ‘loser’ and ‘stupid whore.’ :)
1. The Orgasm Lady’s medical condition was that she had a small tumor on her pudendal artery, which supplies blood to the clitoris. So that area was constantly being stimulated. It was unfortunate that we had to cut the scene that explained it all but the episode was running long. Yes, it was based on an actual case.
2. The episode was titled “Yesterday” even though the theme was “growing up” – because at one point the theme was “the past” – but things change quickly around here, and when we changed the theme, we never got around to changing the title. (We were probably busy updating the writer’s blog.) If you think about it, several of the stories actually reflect both themes – but the growing up thing felt more relevant somehow. The cancer man who is still bearing grudges from childhood and the beautiful and funny lionitis kid who never gets a chance to grow up and the orgasm lady who feels like a freak the way most of us do as teenagers and all of our characters who in this episode seem trapped in a prolonged state of adolescence…
3. McSteamy is indeed hot. And yes, there is the possibility for a return visit sometime – but the deal was this: he asked Addison to meet him at the bar and come home to NY with him. And Addison didn’t show. So Mark went home to NY alone. Sad but true.
4. Yes, Addison is keeping a secret from Derek about the actual dynamics of her affair with Mark. My guess is that Derek has never asked, and that Addison wants so much for him to forgive her that she has opted to lie by omission. I don’t know if Derek will ever find out. Wouldn’t it be crazy if he didn’t? Wouldn’t it be crazy if, as in life, some of the secrets and lies just never surfaced? Man. There would be more name-calling is my guess…
5. The scene with Burke and Cristina dancing is my personal favorite in the history of Grey’s. It was so fabulously adorable and intimate and character-revealing all at once. Sandra and Isaiah just floored me and Rob Corn – whom Shonda refers to as Bossy McBossy, remember? – did a brilliant job directing it.
6. WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT KEVIN COVAIS’ SPEECH IMPEDIMENT? Seriously, how are you supposed to have a professional singing career when you sound like this: “You should have told me yourthelf, that you loved thomeone elth, insthead I heard it through the grapevine…”??? He is sweet kid – even a talented singer, but seriously! Maybe I’ll write to Simon Cowell and call him some names…
-Krista

Thanks for the follow-up... Enjoyable as always! I find that the blogs are almost as fun as the show! It makes it all seem so tangeable and real. Thanks for taking the time for us!!! PS... I'm going to be going into withdrawl... NO GA this week?!?! Not even a repeat!?!?! "Oscars" what are they? ;)

I HATE THE OSCARS
Posted by: molly | March 02, 2006 at 03:35 PM
I like Jon Stewart and all- but really, I'd rather watch GA. Come on, ABC! Get with it!! :)

the cristina burke dancing scene was classic. the intimate scenes outside of the hospital add so much to the show as they help to further the character development give the characters an added dimension to thier personalities.
everyone overlooks this but I loved how she was brushing her teeth in the middle of the living room/kitchen with clearly no bathroom in sight.

I also thought the Cristina/Burke dancing scene was great. Actually, I thought the entire episode was absolutely wicked. Well done!

Thanks for the info. I was definitely interested in the possibility of McSteamy returning. I loved him.

You guys ROCK! I haven't been this involved in a show since Buffy and ANGEL. They were the first and only shows that I was just as much of a fan of the writers as the stars. Thank you so much for taking the time to update the blog. I am addicted already. I love when I see new entries show up in my RSS feed reader. Now get back to work and write more words for them to say and things for them to do!
And who made the Oscars more important than GA anyway? Who do we need to speak to about correcting that? Seriously!

I digress- your follow up had me smilin'... Thanks!

I love Grey's Anatomy and I know that it is just a show. Definitely no reason to call anybody names. It is very entertaining. Thanks for all the work that you do and for keeping it interesting :-)

I have no clue what I am going to do this Sunday either!!!
To all of the writers: Thank you for the follow-ups and for letting us rack your brains. This show has some of the most realistic characters on television. All of the writers seem to understand their characters are alive and not cookie cutter people who do all of the right things; or always have a happy ending. I am giddy with anticipation to see how everything eventually turns out (although being a half-empty kind girl myself these days I have a pretty good idea how it would happen in real life . . . or at least my life). There is only one show I can think of, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that is any where near the level of character development that Grey’s Anatomy is.
Thank you for letting Meredith and George finally have sex. I know it’s dirty and gross but it had to happen. These things happen and if you won’t admit it you are worse off than those of us who will. I agree with everything Krista added; mostly because it has happened to me. I feel like a mixture of Meredith and Christina. I make horrible mistakes with men, especially when I’m drunk but I am also extremely vulnerable and haunted by family problems like Meredith. I have a hard time expressing or showing my feelings and a severe lack of patience (especially when I think the task is easy) like Christina. I am probably more like Meredith though; I’m subtle and sarcastic and always have a quick witty comment even when the situation does not call for it. I am savagely independent, in my own head, but need help from others (even when I won’t admit it). That is why McDreamy is too perfect. He is the type of man who knows exactly what Meredith needs without making a big deal about it; the little things always count for more. Meredith will never get over him. Even if in 10 years she is happily married she will still think about him and wonder; what if?
I am not going to worry about Meredith though; her friends will get over it. It will take Izzy and George a long time but I feel Christina and Alex are already over it. She will be friends with McDreamy even if it kills her. We always do the worst things to ourselves. We love the pain. It makes us feel alive. I think Arthur Golden (another great writer! If only the movie version of Memoirs of a Geisha had writers on par with Grey’s Anatomy) said it best, “Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.” Meredith will wake up one morning and realize she will rise above this and maybe just maybe McDreamy will pick her. It can happen. I chased, and hoped, and prayed for my McDreamy to pick me after finding out he went back to his girlfriend of 6 years (even though he said he never would) for 3 years. I stuck through it and came out on top. And if he doesn’t pick her she will realize that she is a great surgeon who has overcome years of heartache and loss who is still there, still alive, and helping people every day.
George on the other hand has already found the light at the end of his tunnel. He is on his way. To quote Walt Disney: “You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” That kick changed George’s life for the better. He will be a better surgeon, man, husband, boyfriend; you name it because of this.

1. I saved the episode on my Tivo and whenever I need a pick-me-up, I re-watch that scene with Burke and Cristina dancing and then I totally have a bounce in my step the rest of the day.
2. I was at the MTR Paley talk-back the other night, Krista, and I loved how you replied to the French actress' question about getting her SAG card. You awesomely brought the discussion back around to the show by comparing how persistent an actor has to be in Hollywood with the determination the interns have to show in Grey's, and encouraging her to follow her dream. Rock on.
3. I was at a karaoke bar last week and I met this woman who was in the Top 40 on AI this season and she belted out Aerosmith's Cryin' on the mic at the karaoke bar and she had one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard. Like, Kelly Clarkson good. Unfortunately, I forget her name, I just remember she was from Ohio and she was in the Top 40 this season, but got cut before the obviously important Top 24. But, yes, you're right, Kevin Covais has gotta go.
4. Oh, and I love how much Addison has kept from Derrick. It rings so true. When you have wounds that big, the last thing you wanna do is talk about them.
5. Thanks for the Part 2 on your "Yesterday" blog. Now get back to writing awesome dialogue for next episode.

Ignore the stupid name calling from people who obviously cant see the difference between a TV SHOW and real life. You're an amazing writer and you're with the hottest tv show in the planet.. that is certainly not a loser.

So -- and don't assume by this that I'm implying the writing staff isn't up to the task, assume I'm implying that you guys *merit* this sort of company -- when are you going to have Joss sit in for an episode or 2?
Not, y'know, that your dialogue actually needs any tweaking or anything.
In fact, you don't really *need* Joss at all.
It would just be cool.
Congrats on appearing in the Scrubsiverse, too. We're trying to assemble a little list of which fictional universes in turn contain other fictional universes (House likes to watch General Hospital), but David E. Kelley has a perverse habit of making this as difficult an endeavour as possible.
In any event, thanks for the extra filler post to keep us going until the next ep airs.
And hi to the Cool Kids. :-)

Shhh! (Should you really be commenting on a show that airs on a different network??)
Posted by: Morgan | March 02, 2006 at 04:19 PM
Screams of laughter echo throughout my house (after yelling to Baylink, who found a clean area and was drawn to it like a magnet, as he always is (to mess it up) that "Krista posted more!")
Tell Shonda -- *Chocolate* in the IV!! :)
thanks for coming back (someday I know Derek and Meredith are going to walk into the elevator and say
Derek: Meredith,I love you, but I think we can be friends
Meredith: I don't know, Derek, Krista was going to write me an answer, but the fans insisted that she update the blog, so I really don't know.. But the pages that I did get said something about hiding under the desk.
No wait, those were the ones I got from Stacy.. hmmm.. Maybe I should blog. It would something to do instead of sleeping with inappropriate men (no one wrote that for me, but I'm improvising from my last conversation with Alex..)
Thanks for coming back. Seriously.

For those of us going through withdrawl from a single week without GA, think of the SUMMER people! I hope season 2 will be a quick release to DVD, 9 episodes in season one just aren't enough for me!!
Posted by: Amanda H | March 02, 2006 at 04:21 PM
Maybe spin people name calling into a good thing, "wow, this REALLT affected these viewers!!-thats good for at least an additional season, right?!?!
As I am a fan of the Mer/Der reunion, I am a little disappointed by Mark giving up soooo easily, "I love you, come back with me? No, okay." I can respect him respecting her (sorta), but I want her GONE!!!!!! :) Anyway, even if updating the blogs isn't as fun, we look forward to reading them!!!

Krista-
Thanks so much for keeping your promise! I LOVE the show, IMHO it's the best on TV right now. Please don't let those disgruntled "fans" get you down- ya'll are doing a great job! I was upset with the George/Meredith thing but once I read your blog, I understood. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it seems as though they're here to stay. Oh, I believe in yesterday.
I would say the title is perfect.
