From Shonda: THE HARD TRUTH
Okay, this is the last time I’m going to post on a non-episode night. I hate not posting because it is kind of addictive for me to write to you guys – I so love hearing what you say back. But I like to step back and hand over the blog to the next episode’s writer and this Sunday’s episode was written by the very talented, very funny Krista Vernoff with story by Mimi Schmir (also funny and talented) and…oh, you are NOT GOING TO BELIEVE HOW GOOD THE EPISODE IS, let me tell you what happens. It starts with…oh, yeah, the secrecy thing.
The point is, I shouldn’t be posting right now. I have no right to be posting.
But I had to.
Because I’ve been reading your comments.
And reading.
And reading (you guys wrote a lot of comments).
And I’m getting kind of worried about some of you. Not all of you. Just the really nice some of you who have sweet, kind, idealistic, optimistic, hopeful thoughts about Dylan.
Brace yourselves. Ready?
Dylan is dead, y’all.
He’s really dead.
He exploded.
Into a LOT of tiny pieces.
That stuff being washed off Meredith by Cristina and Izzie in the shower scene at the end?
That was chunks of Dylan.
In the lexicon of dead, that makes him super-dead.
DEAD.
May he rest in peace.
I’m really sorry. I really am.

I love the fact that Grey's writers indulge us fans with a blog. But what I love the most: Shonda's honesty and love for us readers. Who takes the time to blog and put us at ease when they are a super duper busy producer and mom? Shonda. So thanks! Thanks for loving us back!

Dear Shonda,
I can't go another day without telling you how much I LOVE this show! I so look forward to it every week. I love how you can make us laugh and cry all in one episode. You and the rest of the writers are FANTASTIC! Keep it up!

That scene TOTALLY scared the crap out of me, I was NOT expecting that at all!!! Yeah, he is dead, isnt he? It sure would have been cool to see some more of him. Why couldn't McDreamy have kissed Mer that night at her house. OMG, that was some of the best writing/acting I have seen in a long time!!! He was TOTALLY INTO HER and just turned around, very believable!

I don't know...I still think Dylan is alive... ;-) I mean, he does get tommorow's newspaper today.

I never had any doubts any dead. However, before his expolosion, when he was trying to calm her I was thinking "hey, there seems to be a bit of chemistry between him and Meredith".
i was sad and relieved (not to mention shocked) to see dylan explode, but its done- cant wait for the next episode!

W-O-W! Stunner, shocker, did not see it coming. If I thought the anesthesiologist leaving in part one floored me...this?!?! Question in our house was why the bomb squad didn't have a containment unit in the OR to drop the ammo into right away. And I LOVE Kyle Chandler, but now he won't be popping up in future episodes because he popped - up, down, all over. How sad.

It was brilliant to have him be the one to die.
I was really shocked... and I mean shocked when the bomb went off!
It then went to commercial... and my heart was racing 100 miles a minute!
Now... that's GREAT DRAMA!

Okay, enough with the Derek loves Meredith and stays with Addison stuff!!! PLEASE just let him pick/choose/love meredith!!! it's just TORTURE for them to not be together! but when you finally DO put them back together, keep Addison on the show!!!

I am amazed at the mass appeal of this show. Young and old, male and female. Congratulations. It's absolutely brilliant. There is not an unlikeable character in the bunch. The writing is superb (and I am a writer, so I doubly appreciate it.) My me, the Grey's characters are the new "Friends" and I hope they get to be our Friends for a long time to come.

I am sorry to hear that Dylan is really gone =( He served his purpose and gave Meredith a reason to hope. Now can Meredith and Derrick get back together? LOL...I make a great hot fudge sundae that will knock your socks off =) But you cant have it till Mer/Der is back together ;)
Also I LOVE the show and I just wanted to let you know.

OK, I can deal with the fact that Dylan is dead. But could you please talk him up to other people in the industry because we just don't see enough Kyle Chander.
Thanks

Lovely.... So, I've been watching Season 1 over the past few days, which is great because I'd missed a few episodes, and I'm afraid I'm getting a bit addicted. I mean, I'm listening to the soundtrack after watching a few hours of the show and taking a gander through the message board. And now I'm writing to you. This is getting a little worrisome....

Hey Shonda.
Awww it's funny how heartbroken some GA fans are over Dylan! Personally, I'm still rooting for Derek and Meredith. OH MY GOD, I am so excited for tomorrow's episode! Since all the writers on Grey's Anatomy seem extremely talented I'm sure it will be amazing. I can't wait! Only 24 hours and 35 minutes =D.
Thanks for posting, we love you... Seriously ;)
P.S NOOOOO! Keep posting on nonepisode nights. I love it!

It's ok Shonda. We understand (at least some of us). Really. A writer/creator has to do what she has to do sometimes. (And wouldn't most people rather a secondary character--no matter how great--be lost than a main character?)
Then again, some of us really want you to keep the whole Mer/Der/Addison/George quadrangle going. Yes, it's tourturous, but it's also more like reality--individuals with thoughts and feelings and questions and concerns about themselves and their relationships; what those relationships mean, where they're going. Where they want them to go. What would happen if they really did go there.
Knowing there's things unspoken, knowing they want to say something, but they can't because if they did, not only the relationship could change, but it could kick off a chain reaction leading places they're not sure they want or can handle things going, not just with the relationship but with everything in their lives.
So nothing is done. They go on living their life. The relationships have ebbs and flows of possibilities. Hints of what could be are dropped with words, or looks, or pauses. But nothing is really done.
They talk about it with their friends, who give them insight on things they are too close, too involved in the possibilites (both good and bad) to see.
So the torture continues. Trust me.
(Besides, the quickest kiss of death for a show is the loss of romantic tension when the couple finally succeeds in being together. This show is waaaaaaaay too good for that to happen! Seriously!!!)

I enjoy reading your blogs. It gives me something that will hold me off until the next episode. My addiction needs feeding and you have done this for me.
Thank you so much! heh.
I just recieved the Season 1 DVD I purchased from Amazon.com and have it in my hands ready to watch.
You bunch of people are the most talented writers for television that I have come across in ages. I usually do not watch television at all but ever Sunday, without hesitation, I am bundled up on the couch awaiting my weekly dose of love.
Keep up the good work and here's to tomorrow's episode and writer!
Cheers.

You seem so excited!
Well we're all excited too. And wriggling in anticipation for tomorrow. Thank you, thank you, thank you a zillion times for creating this show. It restores my faith in the entertainment value of television.
And I absolutely forgive you for Dylan, it just had to happen that way! But you can't blame those of us who looked for a loophole (like the identical twin thing) -- he was just too adorable, wasn't he?

I had a hard time believing Dylan died but someone had to die I mean...better him then one of the interns or attending...but I really wished it was Addison SORRY I mean she is great and all but come on Derek and Meredith they are like PERFECT...I mean doesn't she see how good they are together..please get them back together.
P.S. My mom says that she loves your show and thanks you for making an hour of silence in the house because when Grey's Anatomy is on NO one I repeat NO breathes but she thinks I am little bit nuts for screaming at the TV for not getting Derek and Meredith back together.
P.S.S. I am 14 and I already got 19 people and school addicted to Grey's today they came over and watched all season one with me.
P.S.S.S I love you Shonda and the cast and I love Patrick Dempsey(aka McDreamy)...one word HOTTY

AH Shonda I forgot to ask, do you want to give us a clue as to what happens in the last 3 minutes?!?! I'm dying here!
Does Thatcher show up then? Does Derek finally admit to Meredith that he is still in love with her??????
Posted by: Cori | February 18, 2006 at 06:32 PM
I saw the clip of Burke and Cristina dancing. Something tells me it started out pretty tame and somehow morphed into Isaiah being well, Isaiah, and Sandra really laughing. I love it. I love that Burke feels that comfortable with her. When the next writer does the blog, I'd love for her to talk about that scene and let me know if I was right about this.

Man! I was really hoping for Dylan to come back to life and hook up with mere so we can finally get some derek addison action!
Posted by: | February 18, 2006 at 06:36 PM
Shonda... that was really harsh. But it's okay, because I love you. I'm going to go watch my first season DVD for the 12th time now. Can't wait 'till tomorrow!

Shonda,
This is what makes "Grey's" so good. It is REAL. I am an EMT. I have cared for my dad from congestive heart failure and 3 years of decline to passing. Then after moving to gorgeous area, my husband used a chemical for wood treatment, ended up accidentally poisoning himself. The kind with a bottle that is ALL warnings-(if a person knows it can happen, is it accidental ? Really ? - yeah ) went into liver failure, and then we spent 2 years trying to hang on for a liver transplant. It didn't happen. He was always just a bit too sick. It wasn't pretty. It was brutal (if you use paracentesis , which is draining GALLONS of fluid out of ones abdomen, my dh looked pg it would be interesting - Once it was 9 gallons !)But sadly this is REAL. I have worked the emergency dept. Your show is real. Thank you - if I wanted "back from the dead" stuff, I could go back to daytime dramas :)
Keep up the great work, and thank you for getting this show on the air for us all to enjoy. Life is real, it isn't always pretty, or safe or happy.
Thank you.

Shonda,
First of all, I can't believe you posted!!! I check several times a day for any update...just to give you an indication of how hooked I (and obviously so many others) am.
You are so funny! I didn't think there was much of a chance for poor Dylan. He was loveable while he lasted. Please keep Burke and Derek and our other friends safe!
Seriously, I look forward to reading your posts ALMOST as much as I do each new episode. It is so cool how you write to this very dedicated, somewhat obsessed fan base like we are all great friends. I, for one, love to read and get the "inside" scoop, or as much as you are willing to share.
I love the characters you have created (even Addison, as long as she isn't w/ Derek:)) They are all very likeable and lifelike.
Please keep your magic going. I love this show!
One last plug, for Derek and Meredith, of course...
Thanks again-
A HUGE fan

You're great Shonda. I saw that you worked on Princess Diaries 2. I thought that was a freaking hilarious movie too. You really are awesome. I also saw a clip from this week's episode on VH1's Best Week Ever. They were talking about how you did everything double-two sex scenes in a linen closet, two shower scenes-and they also talked about the guy part of it and the chick part of it. And you guys are rated what? 4th? Out of everything? That's awesome. And you know you're getting big when they start teasing you. Thanks so much. And keep posting. I love it.
